Abstract. Based on the analysis of the driving forces of Land use change of the case area ----13 provinces in the north of china, a large scale spatial Land use change model is developed ,which has been proved successful when applied to the 2010 land use pattern prediction of this case area., by using land use maps of three periods (Years 83,90,99) in the near 20 years, derived from remotely sensed data of NOAA/AVHRR with a resolution of 8kmx8km ,as main input data. This very early stage work has additionally contributed to some detailed problems to be promoted: eg further improvement on modeling precision may greatly depend on how much to integrate the physical and Socio-Economic drivers and how well to solve problems, such as how to match remote sensed land use classifying system with layout data indexes system and how to realize socio-economic data spatial etc.
