(2017-03-03)A CPPCC National Committee member from Hong Kong said on Friday he expected the Hong Kong special administrative region to contribute more to the development of the mainland while calling for sustained efforts in collaboration between both sides.
Speaking ahead of the opening of the Fifth Session of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Timothy Fok Tsun-ting, president of the Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, said he has been extensively involved in the cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland, and has achieved fruitful results in the past several years.
"Hong Kong has benefited a lot from supportive policies from the central government, and we should give full play to our advantages and contribute to the development of the motherland,” he said. “It is crucial for both to sustain the good foundation laid in the past."
Fok sees future collaborative opportunities in areas such as environmental protection and low carbon development.
Fok said Hong Kong achieved relatively high economic performance last year.
Hong Kong's economy expanded by 1.9 percent in real terms last year, official data showed.
