(2017-03-09)The German Embassy will host a presentation on climate friendly industry on March 12 at the residen2ce of German ambassador in the Diplomatic Quarters of the Saudi capital.
The presentation will be made by Karsten Sach, director general of climate policy, and European and international policy at the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building, and Nuclear Safety.
The topic of the forum is “How a climate-friendly industry benefits industrial competitiveness.” “The objective behind the presentation is to identify current approaches in climate-friendly industry and to explain how it benefits industrial competitiveness,” said German Ambassador Dieter Haller Tuesday, while giving details of the presentation here.
The forum, to be addressed by Sach, is being personally organized by Ambassador Haller and Philipp Schoenbrunn-Knappmann, chief of economic affairs at the German Embassy. The embassy has invited a large number of guests for the presentation.
The presentation is significant keeping in view that industries account for nearly one-third of global greenhouse-gas emissions, and they will be playing an increasingly important role in achieving global targets.
Tackling climate change by focusing on industries has long been a contentious issue among scientists. Dr. Sach will shed light on industries that that call for positive systemic change in this area.
Sach, who is a well-known name in Europe, has been Germany’s chief negotiator at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) conferences. He was also the environment attaché of the Permanent Representation of Germany to the European Union in Brussels for four years. He entered the German Environment Ministry in 1991. Before joining the ministry, Sach taught environment and economic law.
